This is the blog of August R Rulewich, an architecture student currently enrolled at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The blog is used mainly to showcase my projects and other work throughout the five year architecture program at RPI.

    I am the owner of Taskboard, your project looks great but I have one question:
    Did you use the correct laser cutter speed? It looks like the edges are very dark and there are burn marks on the surface of the board.

    • Depending on what part of the project you are referring to, it is very possible that the laser cutter wasn’t at the right speed/not focused properly. In our fabrication shop here, the laser cutters are all set by the shop staff – we as the students aren’t allowed to mess with the settings, we only focus the laser and then choose the pre-saved setting based on our material. Thus, I have no way to control things like speed.

      Also, there are two different laser cutters here, and of course both have their own unique idiosyncrasies and tend to cut things slightly differently.

      Plus, being that this is only my second year in architecture school, I still don’t really know what I’m doing a lot of the time 🙂
